The Journey Here
I’ve always followed the beat of my own drum.
For much of my twenties, that looked like travelling, moving countries and following whatever adventure seemed to be calling me next. I taught English overseas, had plans to spend a year living in London before Covid brought me back home to New Zealand, and in 2021 made the move across the ditch to Australia. New South Wales came first, then Queensland, before I eventually found my way to Perth — and after years of being a bit of a travel girl, I think I’ve finally found home.
Along the way I’ve worn a few different hats — au pair, nanny, even technical writer — but somehow, I’ve always found my way back to working with children and families.
After working with them on and off for close to a decade, I knew I wanted to study again — just not another four-year degree. It was actually through a family I nannied for that doula work first came onto my radar. Something clicked. After almost a decade of working closely with children and families, becoming a doula somehow just felt like the next natural step.
And then I realised I’d done something very Alice.
I had entered a profession largely made up of mothers, drawn to birth and motherhood long before experiencing either for myself.
I’ve always been a deep-feeling person, and really, what is more profound than birth? As I’ve grown older, my relationship with womanhood has deepened too. I’ve become increasingly drawn to femininity and my own maternal side, while still being the girl who loves to surf, camp and isn’t afraid to get a little messy. I love the polarity of both.
And somewhere along the way, another thread came back to find me: writing.
I’ve always had a way with words. I’m the girl who writes the long card, treasures handwritten notes, and has quietly imagined becoming some kind of author for as long as I can remember. I just never imagined my writing would find its home here.
Nannying led me to doula work. Doula work led me deeper into the world of birth. And birth led me back to words.
Turns out, life has been leaving me breadcrumbs along the way.
My doula work now brings together the emotional, practical and physical sides of birth preparation. Alongside it, I sit with women as they share their birth stories, bringing their memories to life in words for them to keep and return to.
Two different offerings, but to me they come from the same place: a fascination with birth, a love of women’s stories, and a calling to walk alongside women through some of life’s biggest liminal spaces.
I truly believe each client is divinely brought into my world — that we find each other for a reason. It’s never just a service; it’s a sacred exchange. Each woman I work with cracks my heart open a little more and makes the path ahead a little clearer.
Life outside of Liminally
﹅ I’m happiest near the ocean! You’ll often find me down at Trigg catching some baby greenies with the Club Shakas girls, lying in the sun with a book, or alternating between the sauna and an ocean dip.
﹅ I loooove experimenting in the kitchen and am becoming a bit of a fermenting queen. I’ve recently discovered homemade sauerkraut and kefir — and I’m currently gathering up the courage to attempt sourdough!
﹅ Dance has become such a big part of my life — whether it’s letting loose at sensual dance with Sass Movement, salsa down at the Scarborough Amphitheatre in summer, or becoming Cowgirl Alice at line dancing.
﹅ Love me a good jigsaw puzzle. Relaxing, while keeping my mind busy just enough
